10 skincare tips for men: a simple routine that works
By Near2 Editorial · 13 Oct 2026 · 6 min read
Good skincare does not need to be complicated or expensive. A consistent routine built around a few useful habits can help your skin feel cleaner, calmer and more comfortable.
1. Start with a gentle cleanser
Wash your face morning and evening with a gentle cleanser rather than ordinary hand or body soap. Harsh soap can leave skin feeling tight and dry. If your skin is very dry or sensitive, cleansing once in the evening may be enough.
2. Know your skin type
Notice how your skin feels after washing. Tight or flaky skin may be dry; shine across the face can suggest oilier skin; a mixture of both is common. Choose products labelled for your skin type, but remember that your skin can change with the weather, age and shaving.
3. Moisturise every day
Apply moisturiser while your skin is slightly damp to help lock in hydration. Look for a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula if you are prone to breakouts, or a richer cream if your skin is dry.
4. Make SPF a daily habit
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher on exposed skin every day, not just on sunny days. UV exposure contributes to premature ageing and can worsen pigmentation. Reapply when you are outdoors for long periods, sweating or swimming.
5. Improve your shaving routine
Shave after a warm shower or use a warm flannel first. Apply a proper shaving gel or cream, use a sharp clean razor and shave in the direction of hair growth. Rinse with cool water and moisturise afterwards.
6. Do not scrub too aggressively
Rough scrubs and hard brushing can irritate the skin, especially after shaving. If you need exfoliation, choose a gentle product and use it no more than once or twice a week. Stop if you experience stinging, persistent redness or peeling.
7. Keep products simple
You do not need a shelf full of products. A cleanser, moisturiser and SPF are a strong starting point. Add one new treatment at a time so you can tell how your skin reacts, and patch-test new products when the instructions recommend it.
8. Look after the skin around your eyes and lips
The skin around the eyes and lips can feel dry more quickly. A basic moisturiser can often be used carefully around the eye area, while a lip balm with SPF helps protect and comfort your lips.
9. Change the habits that touch your face
Wash pillowcases and towels regularly, clean your phone screen and avoid picking spots. Keep beard trimmers and razor heads clean, and replace blades when they become dull.
10. Get professional advice when you need it
Persistent acne, painful spots, unusual rashes, severe sensitivity or changing moles deserve advice from a GP, pharmacist or qualified skin professional. A facial or consultation can also help you understand your skin, but it should complement—not replace—medical care when something is persistent or concerning.
A simple routine to remember
Morning: cleanse if needed, moisturise and apply SPF 30+.
Evening: cleanse, apply any suitable treatment and moisturise.
